Hi in the UK same mixed story . 3 sell this aggressively as a mobile BB solution - errr....

But better than tales of (friends) other mobile providers T, 02 vodaphone same dongle rubbish connection. They are all talking up there products .... so desperate to obtain market share.

When it works (3) it works well ie if you get a good 3 or 2 G signal. Some areas abysmal and unexpected eg. middle of Birmingham .

My son used my lap top on a motorway journey for 300 mls and uninterrupted signal watching BBC I player and playing online games (mac laptop). Great in Lancashire rubbish in bits of London . I move around the country for work .

I use Google mail as a work around - complete satisfaction with this product and means you keep existing email addys. You can maintain (if you want ) client based records ie mirror of emails or just use Google . Helps me to be more disciplined about removing mail . It works fine and I am so impressed Ive migrated to using on-line email client and other features cal , documents.

I have found 3 customer service to be rubbish they try hard but have no idea ! But great discussions about cricket and weather in India !

As a business/ personal product I rate it 4/10 but I want it to be 8/10 so am badgering 3 for improved performance. Also letting Charles Dunstone into the story as he is keen on good products and informed customers (CPW CEO). See http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/commerce/servlet/gben-server-PageServer?article=MAIN.UK.INTERNET.HELPINFO.COMPINFO.CEO

Ive not tried VOIP on it yet but thats a next stage ? Anyone got any experience of this ?

Hope this helps - I was going to send mine back to Car phone warehouse but am sticking with it .... heres hoping .

3G Rip Off!!!!!!
I was misold a broadband USB and "Phone package" I don't use the phone and never did. I was told I could cancel.......I'm so pissed off I can't even type it...

The usb does not work cross border even though the sales gut said it would.

When you cross borders ( Ireland ) you can't talk with anyone that can help. One side says call UK 3....the other says call Ireland 3....no one can help...

They keep me on hold, passing me through one person to the next always asking for the same information every time they pass me to somone else.

Every phone call has been over 30 mins and is costing me a fortune on my home phone.

Customer service is incompetent and has the stance that we as consumer should just pay their bills and stop complaining.

DON'T GO NEAR 3G...3G RIP OFF, SCAM, WASTE OF MONEY < <Edited>>

Is a normal N95 with a standard non broadband sim capable of getting faster downspeed than 700kps?

The 3 (Three) guys in India stated that the speeds available from a stock N95 with normal sim should be the same as the what is on offer using a USB modem, but on Ebay the sims are sold as either broadband or basic voice sims, contradicting what Three technical support say.

The Three sales people in the shops also say they get good service of 3.6mbs all the time using a N95 with a voice sim and that broadband sims can not be bought alone, even though they are for sale on Ebay.

Who is telling the truth???
The teachnical guys in India, the guys on Ebay or the guys actually selling the phones on the high street? (who probably know the least!)

Let Hutchison 3G Ireland Ltd RIP you OFF
I have been in touch with the very pleasant and polite staff on the other side of the world again. This time I did not bother to ask if there is something I should be doing to speed up my 3 wireless pay as you go connection, I figured this would be futile. There is nothing the polite staff can do about the RIP / OFF company, who are based in Dublin with a PO box no, no e-mail address, no phone number for contact how handy this is to avoid a service that is second to all. You can call the other side of the world for customer care for free. I will assume the polite employees are paid a pittance for listening to the repetition day in day out. This company is called,

I fixed this issue it seems to be with permissions set in the registry.

open your registry editor.

start>run>regedit

navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SYSTEM
CONTROLSET001
ENUM
USB

Then look for VID_12d1&Pid_1003
set folder permissions for ALL users to full control

next one down look for
VID_12d1&pid_1003&MI_00
again set the folder permissions for ALL users to full control

Close regedit.

restart computer.

plug in 3 modem
start application, even if it sez INVALID modem wait a moment should then appear.

did for me.

hope this helps you guys out'.

What does this sort out? Torrents or compatability issues?

I was wrong when I said that I could only send e-mails using my dsl.pipex.com address. Using my usual e-mail address I can send e-mails provided that the outgoing smtp server is set to dsl.pipex.com and the connection is authenticated with the correct user name and password.

Three (UK) now admit that they have a problem. Their smtp server is for use by mobile phone cutomers only and not for broadband customers. What you need is an ISP which allows "smtp forwarding". Enter this into Google to find a listing but it is a very short list.

same problem here in italy. smtp.tre.it was working fine (was relaying, as long I was connected via TRE italia with my adsm modem.

but now, its not working anymore. i was told, that this smtp server works ONLY, if you authentificate with your phonenumber and pin... which again... works only if you use the three mail adress.

port 25 seems to be locked.

does anybody know a relaying and free smtp server NOT running on port 25?

I have now set up an alternative e-mail account at dsl.pipex.com

This allows me to send emails via the 3 Modem provided you set the Outgoing Mail Authentication tro ON and select it to use your pipex identificastion and password to sign you in.

Problem with that is that you seem to have to send e-mails using your pipex address. A nuisance adding yet another e-mail address!

I have just installed a 3 Mobile Broadband modem. I live in Rochdale. Reception is fine and I get 3.6 speed all the time. This is great for using the web BUT I can't send e-mails or use ftp.
I spoke to 3 Mobile Broadband Technical guy who gave the story about using smtp.three.co.uk. It does NOT work. Still waiting for a follow up call back!
My son is in the mobile phone business and knows people at 3. He spoke to a contact who told him that basically they have a solution to the outgoing mail and ftp problem but it still has to be "signed off".
You may be able to use some alternative ISP but which ones?
